A Message from Mayfair BID Executive Director Donny Smith

I’m still struggling to believe that Summer has passed, Fall is whizzing by, and that Winter will be here in just a few short weeks. I still have clocks that I haven’t turned back yet, and now I’m thinking that I’ll just leave them set as they are since Spring will be here before you know it!

October was a bit of a blur with the Philadelphia Phillies coming oh so close to making it into the World Series, the Phillies Bus Tour coming to Mayfair, and our Seward Johnson exhibit wrapping up for the season. The NPDC hosted their annual Mid Autumn Festival right on Frankford Avenue (finally with some good weather), and Anne Marie Muldoon of Avenue Chiropractic kicked off the 2023 Toys For Tots program. Drop-off boxes have been distributed to several of our businesses along our corridor, and you can also drop off a toy during the Parade or Tree Lighting ceremony.

Mayfair is filled with tradition, and we’ve got a lot of em!

We’ve got the 46th Annual Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade coming to Frankford Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 18, starting promptly at noon, and our Mayfair Tree Lighting and Christmas Village will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2-6 p.m. with the folks from the Seward Johnson Atelier lighting the tree at dusk.

On Thanksgiving day, Lincoln H.S. will be hosting Father Judge in the Annual Turkey Bowl, and immediately following the game, head on down to Rauchuts Tavern to catch Mike LeCompt performing in the Annual Rauchuts Tavern Thanksgiving celebration. I could be wrong, but I believe that the Rauchuts Tavern Thanksgiving celebration tradition is 30 years old!

We’re also going to host another Mayfair Christmas Decoration Contest with prizes going to the Best Decorated Rowhomes, the Best Decorated Singles, Corners & Twins, the Best Decorated Businesses in Mayfair, and the Best Decorated Houses of Worship in Mayfair. The competition is always fierce, so get your homes and businesses ready, Mayfair!

Stay tuned for the possibility of another Mayfair Trolley Tour again this year as well!

Don’t hibernate just yet Mayfair; the best is yet to come!
